Alan Bowd

1st Cornet Bb

Alan plays 1st cornet in the Fellowship Band and is the Bandmaster at the Abertillery Corps.

He is married to Pat, and they have 2 grown up children, Suzanne and Kathryn. Suzanne has one daughter, one adopted daughter and 2 foster children and Kathryn has two children, Kezia and Rosie.

Before retiring Alan worked in the printing industry including some years at the Argus in Newport as a typesetter.

Alan has played for bands in Blaina, Abergavenny and Blaenavon and admits that he has many favourite band pieces but "Constant Trust" and "Resurgam" (both by Eric Ball) must be at the top of his list.

He also adores classical music and Dvorak is his favourites composer although Mussorgosky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" is a long time favourite.

Finally Alan's most treasured memory is when Abertillery Band represented the territory's small bands at the Royal Albert Hall in 1984.
