Ken Bartlett

Major Ken Bartlett was born in Trowbridge, Wiltshire and first learned to play an instrument at school eventually becoming principal French Horn with the Wiltshire County Youth Orchestra.

Ken went to the William Booth College,London to train as a Salvation Army officer, with his wife Jill and children Ben & Briony, as part of the Servants of God Session 1982 – 1984.

He has served in various appointments in England & North Wales  before retiring from Torquay in July 2015, where he also played with Torbay Brass (Trombone & Euphonium) & Riviera Brass.

He has a BA Honours Degree in Pastoral Care with Psychology.

Ken’s wife, Jill is the Corps Officer at Maesteg, Ben is married and lives in Bristol and Briony is married, and with her husband and  three children lives in Frome.

Ken loves most band and songster music but is especially fond of classical music naming his favourite composers as Beethoven, Sibelius & Charles Ives.

His favourite pieces include ‘Inclusion’ by Paul Sharman and ‘None Other Name’ by Eric Leidzen., and he loves the music of  Eric Ball especially “Journey into Freedom”.
